I'll be turning 50 next month! Time to review my life's choices, I think.
I have a fantastic job, I am a teacher in an art college and a working artist. I make enough to get by comfortably but I'm not rich, nor has that ever been my intent.
Typically people facing the mid-life crisis
are encouraged to ...duh .. take art classes and explore themselves on a personal level. Egads, I've done that for the past 35 years!
Yet, I feel restless.
What is there to do?
And, really, have fun with your answers -- I know this is really an entertainment site. Yet, I hope for a glimmer of an idea to -- try something to satisfy my ... restlessness!

Yes, I've been to NYC, Los Angeles, Boston and Hong Kong -- my work has taken me there. And I've also written on the current art scene and specifically collaboration.

Now would be an excellent time to travel. I knew a couple who traveled to every baseball park in the US. One guy traveled to every amusement park. My grannie started traveling with other older ladies to different historical sites. Get out and see the world. Maybe it would be the inspiration you need!Maybe you could see every strip club in America...lol

It sounds like you aren't unhappy...just (as you said) restless. Also, since it doesn't seem like you are at all focused on what might be a direction to go in, start small and see if anything intrigues you. It seems like you are interested in pushing your comfort zone a little, but aren't sure how to start.
For example, starting with a really small step might be to try expressing your artistic nature in a different media. From there, you could just 'drop in' on another type class at the college that you teach. On thing that I have found fun to do too, and it can either be incredibly boring, or very interesting, is to sit at a park bench, or something like that, in a 'walking friendly' part of town, people watch for a while and pick a person who is leaving the area to follow for 3 minutes. (Not REAL follow, you aren't looking to become a stalker!) Maybe they'll take you in the direction of a different shop, or cafe, or a different street than you've ever been to before. Depending on how you are feeling about where you are, you can either stay and check it out, or pick another person to tag along with, or decide that it isn't for you. It at least sets up the potential to see new things, or see the same things through new eyes. A lot of how you deal with this restlessness depends on the type of person that you are, and have been.
Enjoy the milestone, and have fun 'adventuring'. Most of it is all in your attitude toward things anyway.

Sit down and make a list of all the things you would want to do if you were 21 and just starting out all over again. While you are at it make a list of all the things you wish you had been taught when you were you at 21, all the things you wish you could teach someone else that IS that age.
Now realize that although you are wiser with experience you are still basically that same starry eyed, idealistic 21 year old at the core of your being. You and only you have the answer to your question; don’t be afraid to accept your own answer.
Be true to who you are and find out why you are feeling restless. The restlessness is being caused by an unfulfilled desire and as long as it is not destructive or harmful I see no reason to not try and fulfill it.
Your life is yours, live it to the fullest!

Finding something that excites you is not really difficult today. Have you tried flying classes or horse riding or golf. These activities have not much to do with art as such and you can see a whole new side of yourself when you look for something which is quite different from what you currently do. Travel, but don't make it art inspiring trips...as in don't go see all the boring architecture of the place, instead check out the night clubs and bowling alleys....make new friends who are more of the corporate types...try it...might be fun. All the best and have an exciting day today.

Going on what you've said and what generally speaking mid life crisises are about. You should go and work in a 9-5 office job. However I wouldn't wish that on anyone that is earning a respectable living in any other 'non office field' You could always go and do what my dad did which is go and open up a windsurfing club in Cyprus!
To be less structured you could work at becoming an international playboy, invent or elaborate on a past and see how far you can go without actually having to use a bank account. I had a friend who did something like that once and he got halfway round the world before anyone cottoned onto him!
Good luck and have fun with whatever you decide to do.

* Do normal daily things differently; some changes are good.
* Travel and know people and cultures.
* Explore life in a more deeply way, enjoy every breat you take, ecery falvor you taste, every breeze you feel, every sound you hear and everything you see.
* Enjoy your family, expend quality time with them; get updated about them; talk about your ancestors and relatives.
Exploring and feeling the world and people, helps to explore yourself and travelling inside your own mind is a great adventure to take. That way you will know who you are now and just live.
Remember past is in the past and you can't change it, you cannot control the future, so just live your present and plan for the future. If you achieve what you planned good, if not, it's good too, learn from mistakes and go on. Just reinvent yourself.

I wonder if it would be satisfying for someone with your talents to volunteer at a hospital doing crafts with sick kids. Or at a home with older people.
You can explore yourself all you want, but it's not until you focus on others' happiness before you truly begin to feel fulfilled.
Just a thought.

Start studying comparative religions and world views in search of meaning in your life. If you get new ideas on what life is for--what is worthwhile in life then you will have new jumping off points for new adventures in your life. And in the meantime you will have fun, and learn something interesting.
