All hardware, OS, database solutions, SAP, JD Edwards, ERP, Banking, Financial, Process control....literally nothing is made in India. We are just end users or developers and low cost BPO workers. There is NOT a single Indian brand in the software segment. Then why do we brag so much about our computer prowess and brain power?.

This not to underestimate our capbility and contribution. This is a wakeup call to change our "call centre employee" mindset. Otherwise all the brains will get rusted.

Thanks Senthil. You have just echoed my views and the government's cool attitude in just making some foreign exchange without any master plans for our brilliant brains. Shame on these politicians.

Logically your explanation looks right. We may not be the real software giants, & even though we donot have a single software brand in the market, we do have a great great potential in the development of softwares. As you said we are working from the back end and have prowess and brain power and we are spending them to the development of the software for foreign companies and their needs. Here in India, we really lag behind the marketting power and the investing power, if some Indian companies really invest and market, then we will be the market Gaints. On the other hand we are also laging work environment for the implementation and checking of the same. To conclude we do have the brain power and prowess for developing softwares from the back end and we are not the market gaints.

India is being called a software giant for the specific reason that India offers an educated diaspora at a much lower cost; such a group is ideal material for white collar jobs offered by foreign companies.
However some folks are thinking of doing their own things... and the examples I listed are some of the more famous ones.
India may not be a giant yet, but its not a midget. Its a country that is rapidly increasing its strides! And I am proud of it!!!

Hey,come on.Havnt you heard of Infosys technologies,to quote one example.
India is having huge amount of good talents. It is available at very cheap cost.Hence the mushrooming of BPOs and et al.
There is some amount of marketing ploy adoped by buerocrats and the business barons.
But I think India is deserved to become a giant. What all of you people say?

You're right: there are NO India generated high tech products cranked out for the planet to buy......yet. Currently, major US and other countries in the high tech industry are gleefully using cheap Indian labor to assemble and sell their products---all for a grandscale fraction of what it'd cost American workers to do.

But in time, someone in India is going to ( if they haven't yet already ) figure out how to make their OWN high tech products and you very well soon may see Indian generated high tech products offered and TRILLION dollar Indian companies born from it.

I don't know but every time I have a problem with my HP printer and trouble shooting, I'm connected with Alec or Alex Watson in India. He is always very nice but the voice seems to be a different person.
