I have loved rock from the mid-eighties to now. I think rock is going thru a funk. Do you know any Indie bands I can get into?

Here is the reason why mainstream rock sucks: Supposably 80% of good rock is pirated so promoters are reluctent to promote any rock act.

OMG i love indie rock. um The Kooks, The Automatic, Blur, Sonic Youth, the flaming lips.
The Kook and the automatic arent that well known but the kooks are bloody awesome
I reckon mainstream rock bands like AFI suck cos they just get signed by the hundreds of labels out there today no matter how much they suck.

I'm pretty sure that's all relative. I mean, what do you consider rock? How do you define 'sucking'? What constitutes as mainstream? There are a couple of variables to consider here. I'm pretty sure Chevelle is rock, relatively mainstream, and awesome. Who knows, maybe they're just an exception, huh?

oh my man. i couldn't agree more. check out some great great detroit bands. most have myspace sites. just search their name

dirtbombs---- mick collins is the greatest guitarist out there
detroit cobras --- female fronted 50's throwback rock band.
pas/cal-- fun art pop music. great singer
outrageous cherry - great power pop. matthew smith is a genius
the sights - 3 piece. guitar, drums and hammond. awesome
brendan benson- 1/4 of raconteurs but his solo stuff is great.
tone and niche - great guitar/voilin combo. they do all types of music.
great lakes myth society - great art folk band.
another great artist not from detroit is bonnie 'prince' billy. he was on conan last week. his new album is called "the letting go" but his best album is 99's "i see a darkness"
johnny cash covered the title track on his american III album.
