Found out recently that our neighbor is dying. We offered our sympathies and said "If there's anything we can do..." Found out 2 weeks later the man is a registered sex offender. Do I tell him not to bother contacting us if he needs help or treat him with a modest amount of respect knowing he won't be here much longer.

The sex offender registry listed the offense as actual sexual contact with an 8 yr old.

God does not like ugly and he will get what is coming to him. I would ask myself what would God do. We do not spend enough time talking to God and follow his way. Yes we would all like to string these type of people up and leave them but their fate is up to God. Keep your kids away from him and help but help and a distance. Good luck with this.

I say that you liked him before you knew this, right. You offered to help any way you could right? Then obviously he has never done anything to make you uncomfortable thus far, otherwise, you would have stopped contact then. Remember that he is a human being, and that he is dying. Unless he does anything to make you uncomfortable ( and now that you know about his past, don't over scrutinize, if it would offend you if another friend did it, then its probably offensive, but if it wouldn't, don't make it special just for him), then break off contact, but until then treat him the same.
If he's a registered offender, then he was caught, convicted, served and released. He paid for his crime, and it is now God's job to judge him, not yours.

This is really hard to answer. My first response would be just to stay away from him, but there are really different kind of sex offenders. I would check out the Megans Law Website and see exactly what he did and how long ago the offense was.
How long have you known him ? What kind of neighbor has he been to you ? Was the offense something just really stupid that he did when he was younger and he has paid for over the years ? or if it was something unforgiveable ?

Glad that he's dying for sure. One less sex offender is great, but none the less, he is still a person. He is dying after all. I'm sure he's already been through enough hell as it is. No one should have to die knowing that the whole world wants them dead. Be a better person and let him feel that at least one person cared.

I know he is a sex offender and that he touched an 8 yo, and I know that it is VERY SICK, but that kid probably got touched for about 15 minutes. This mans life will probably end very soon. I would talk to him and try to be nice.

Not to stand up for him but sex offend can go a long way. Might not be what you think it is. But never the less it probably is what you think. In his current health if he really is dieing he probably will not be much harm. I would still avoid him just because but do not let him know why.

Since he's dying, just let him die in peace. Don't say anything to him one way or the other. If, in fact, they take you up on your offer "if there's anything we can do," I think the nice and charitable thing would be to do it. Remember, whatever you do for the least of my brothers.

Show him respect. He may have repented and God may have already forgiven him. With the fact that God will judge him soon anyway, you should reserve your judgement.
