I dont think its really that they choose but if your parents are not you are not going to see the value in education. Drink Bud, watch sports, etc. all fine and well but to be able to recognize the depths of humanity through education? Priceless. The easy way for most is to not think so much but they dont realize that it is actually easier to comprehend the world. Reminds me.... I need to call my parents and thank them. The Mer_tice, another person who answered would seem to be a case in point. Stating an answer in text. Hmm....

No one chooses to be uneducated.

By "uneducated" do you really mean "Why do people choose to disagree with you?" or "why do people choose to be different than you?" or "why don't people choose to see things the way you do?" Well the answer to those questions is people are entitled to choose whatever they want for themselves, whether what they believe is true or false.

I have a better question for you;

Why do uneducated people think that everyone else is uneducated?

One of the reasons why some people choose to be uneducated is because of financial reasons. Some of them earn money but not enough for them to go to school to study. You can achieve education not just by attending school. Traveling is one form of education. Through traveling, a person can learn about the culture, people, and about the place they visit. Long time ago, people don't have the kind of education we have now a days. In some cultures, for women learning to do household chores, rearing babies, etc. is already education for them. Reading magazines, newspapers or books helps a person to learn and gain informations.

What kind of education are we talking about? I have a high school education and some college education....but I can't afford any more college education right now. So I guess I am uneducated on a college level because I don't have the money.

If by "uneducated" you mean lack of formal education:

Many people wouldn't choose it. They do not have the opportunity to get a formal education for one reason or another.

Many people have not been raised by parents who show them the value of education and/or they have not had the moral support required from their upbringing.

Many people are "turned off" by mediocre schools and colleges. People with very high IQ's can find mediocre education intolerable, and they educate themselves. They find they get a better education that way. Very intelligent high school students are often unachievers as a result of the mediocre education. This leads to ok-but-not-great grades, which means they won't get into the cream-of-the-crop universities even with high SAT's. They end up in yet more mediocre schools and tend to leave. Another thing that happens for people with very high IQ's is that a school that the nicely-above-average IQ'd person thinks is great is mediocre to the extremely bright individual.

People with learning disabilities can find formal educational settings too challenging sometimes, and they, too, may educate themselves.

People with average or slightly below average IQ's may find that work that doesn't require much (if any) formal training/education is what they're most comfortable with and may aim to try to "work their way up".

People with plenty of aptitude may have an interest in work that doesn't require formal education.

People may intend to get a formal education, but life may get in the way - illness, illness in the family, money difficulties, etc.

People who live under stressful circumstances may have difficulty concentrating, and as a result can't be bothered with studying (particularly in view of whatever it is in their life that is making them so stressed out).

Young people can have depression and not even realize it; and, as a result, may not feel up to dealing with academics. A PBS program on the teenager's brain stated that the pre-frontal cortex may not be developed until the early- to mid-twenties; and it was noted that this can cause a tendency toward depression.

Some people can see examples of other people who have had a formal education and who aren't particularly successful and/or intelligent in their day-to-day lives. As a result, a person may come to wonder about the benefits of education, particularly if he/she has not yet decided what career path to choose.

Many young people don't know what they want to do with their lives. They may rule out some professions (don't want to be a doctor because hate "body stuff", don't want to be a lawyer or social worker because they can ruin lives, don't want to be a teacher because hate kids, don't want criminology or nursing or certainly not computers, and really don't want business or finance, etc. etc.). They are left not seeing any particular reason to get a formal education "just for the sake of getting the education". Some young people don't have the money or feel as if they have the time for a luxury like that.

Some people have talent that cannot be taught in any formal educational setting - and they know it and know they will be successful in work that allows them to use that talent.

Young people from families of modest means may not want to ask their parents to get involved in some of the financial commitments required for the son or daughter to attend college. Some young people also believe the moral thing is to work and help their parents with money.

If by "uneducated" you mean "ignorant" - People don't choose that. They just are that.

Are you equating uneducated to mean people without degrees?

Unfortunately, I didn't go to college as a young lady. I'm in the process of trying to go now. I also visit my local library and go to free lectures at a community college.

It is easier to be uneducated, I guess. It depends on what you mean by it.

Do you spend your every waking moment educating yourself?

If I posted a math problem, and instructions on how to solve it, would you take the time to learn it? Right now?

The reason why education is more important to some people than others, is a person's priorities in life. Some people enjoy the learning process. Some people want to learn in a more practical, hands-on fashion. There are different learning styles. A student who is good at mathematic/logical skills may be terrible at learning kinesthetic skills like basketball or gymnastics.

Education is a process of self discovery- not just discovery. Everyone has to learn their limitations and strengths in order to learn. Even then, they have to learn what is good for them to know. In the meantime, there's life to deal with. For some, life is plenty, and never learn how to enjoy education of any kind.

This is a question that will last through the ages. It has many answers. The logical answers to this range from money to family. The other answers range from ignorance to stupidity. However some of us who choose the path of education can get caught up in the job market and be left scratching their heads as to where they can market the skills that they have been educated to learn. In the last case I suppose it is a matter of grabbing your best skill and running with it to see how far it will go.

Why do educated people ask stupid questions.. Maybe they don't want to be like you.

I bet you don't know what uneducated people know. Does that make you uneducated?

Some people would rather work. School isn't for everyone! Some thinks school is boring, a waste of time. Some people have a hard time concentrating on the books to where it feels meaningless to be in school.
