It doesn't even show up on the hard drive anymore! Just like it never was there!
What's the deal?
My computer is 2/12 years old and it was there when I got it!.. For about 1 year! I even used it!

Open up the casing of your computer and replug the data and power cables of the DVD/CD drive.

Use Air Blower in order to clean your computer from dust before reconnecting the cables.

Try to change data cable.

Check your drive in system BIOS

If nothing works check your drive with other computer or reinstall the operating system

If still no use then buy a new one or get repaired as its an electronic item that has no warantee

For some reason, your CD/DVD drive software got deleted and will need to be reinstalled. Find the CD/DVD software disc and simply reinstall it.

If you don't have such a disc handy, perhaps logging on to the company that made the disc drive might be of help. One better: try contacting your PC maker's tech support for help there; maybe they can send you a free copy of the install disc.

If all else fails, you might need to replace the disc drive itself: something quite easy to do. Log onto www.pricewatch.com and search for a replacement CD/DVD drive; you might find the price for one pleasingly amazing.

That happened to me with my old computer. It meant that the drives were overheating or something... the system shuts them off to be safe. You might need to restore it or have it looked at.
