"I Want You to Want Me" originally by Cheap Trick (1977)
covered by Propaghandi (1993)
covered by Letters to Cleo (1999)
covered by Dwight Yoakam (2000)
covered by Smashing Pumpkins
covered by Lindsay Lohan (2005)

You may be thinking of the song, "I Want You to Want Me", sung by Cheap Trick (I'm sure someone else recorded it first 'way back when'), and recently Chris Isaak has released his version of it...others have recorded it as well...
