G'day elvenprince,

Thank you for your question.

Sania Mirza shows potential but has more work to do before reaching the top.

She is the highest ranked female tennis player ever from India, ranked number 31 in singles and 109 in doubles by mid-October 2005.

She became the first Indian woman to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament at the 2005 US Open, defeating Mashona Washington, Maria Elena Camerin and Marion Bartoli. In 2004, she finished runner up at the Asian Tennis Championship. In 2005 Mirza reached the third round of Australian Open, losing to eventual champion Serena Williams. On February 12, 2005, she became the first Indian woman to win a WTA singles title defeating Alyona Bondarenko of Ukraine in the Hyderabad Open Finals.

Mirza won the Wimbledon Championships Girls' Doubles title in 2003, teaming up with Alisa Kleybanova of Russia.

She has admitted that she needs to do more work on her fitness.

I have attached sources for your reference.

Regards

I would rate her as a good but not a great player. Don't
expect her to win any Grand Slam singles championships.
She could conceivably be a top 20 player at some point,
but I would be surprised if she sniffed the top 10. She's
a work in progress. She needs to work on her conditioning,
and work on adding to her game. She will never be a serious
threat until she does this.

Because she's the first Indian player to get into the top 50 Indians make a big fuss over her.
But I think its mainly due to her looks which are not that good.

She may win crucial matches but she has not got the potential to win a GS.
She has not got the right attitude.

I don't think she is as great as the Indian media makes her out to be. She is a mediocre tennis player and her looks is just average to me, not in the level of Sharapova, Sabatini, Kournikova.I think she is a flop and her win against Hingis will be coming out of mouth by the time she has lost. In most of her interviews I find her quite arrogant and air-headed.

I knew such questions would prop up all over India after she beat Hingis. Plz let her play. Why do you(maybe not you) get sooooo excited if she wins a good match? What would you have done to Steffi Graf if she had been an Indian????
