So, when someone is upset what is the best thing to do? Do you ask them what is rong? Or do you try and just to comfort them, or what?

JUST REASSURE THEM THAT YOU ARE ALWAYS THERE AND ALWAYS WILLING TO HEAR YOU OUT...I SHOULD KNOW THAT WOULD CALM ME DOWN...:)

Ask them whats wrong. If its not a very serious issue, by telling you the stuff, your friend's mental load would be off.

Next, try to pacify them. Lecturing may not be so useful as a comforting device, therefore, use it under extreme conditions only.

Finally, if the things are very very bad, please leave them alone.

Talk to them if they want to talk. If they just want to sit in silence then let it be it. Do w/e they feel comfortable doing. Eat ice cream, order pizza, go to the gym, box, jog.... w/e the person feels like doing. Just having someone there sometimes helps.

ask them what is wrong and listen. if he/she is not in the mood to say anything about it yet, then understand, but be there when they are ready for someone to listen. Be a good listener... thats the best thing to do.

I would definitely ask them what is wrong. I would then listen to what is bothering them. If they aren't ready to talk tell them you are here to listen when they are ready. Finally I would tell them "I love you and I am sorry your are going through this right now"

Try to comfort them indirectly managing to know what exactly could be the reason for their such situation.

IF it is one of your friends... definately ask if they are okay? and then tell them you are there for them and that if they need you they can call you anytime and talk. That's all you can do. Just make sure that they understand you are there for anything they need. That is definately COMFORTING! :)

the main thing you can do for your friend is to let them know you care and are there for them whenever they need you. do not push them to open up, but let them know that when they are ready to talk, you are ready....try to spend time with your friend if they are open for that. give a call to them, invite them over to visit, watch a movie together or etc...........

i think that the best way around it, is to simply just comfort them. then they don't have to explain anything, and when they're ready they will come out with it
