I don't know, but my money would be on John Elway, the guy threw lazers, and his recievers would proudly show their "Elway Crosses".
The "Elway Cross" was the marks that the football seams made when they caught Elway's passes.

They don't care about mph in football in the same way they do in baseball.

But, if you're interested, I believe that NFL QB's can throw a football between 60 and 70 mph. I don't remember exactly where I read that, though.

Loved the Aaron Brooks comment above!! LOL

I read each answer...they are all wrong. The best or most powerful arm in the history of the NFL was Bobby Douglass of the Bears back in the early 1970's..he could throw a football over 100 yards. Don't get me wrong he wasn't that good but he could run...many thought he should have been a running back...but most experts that have watched the league for years all agree he had the most powerful arm..NOT the most accurate...just one hell of an arm!

When Drew Bledsoe first came up with the Patriots about 10 years ago he had a very fast and hard throw, resulting in numerous incompletions. Accuracy and smart passes count for more than just a hard throw.

one primetime game last year I believe said Brett Favre throws the ball ~66mph, which they compared (in terms of force), to a 100mph baseball. He's split a guy's hand (between thumb and index) durring practice with a throw. It's not surprising though as the man has monster hands.
