My bad cold has now moved into my chest. I've been coughing all night, and coughing leads to me throwing up any food that I have actually been able to keep down. I'm 11 weeks pregnant, and my doctor said that I can take Benedryl but can't take a cough suppressant. Does anyone know what I can do tonight to help with my cough and help me sleep. I'm a teacher and my first observation of the year is first thing tomorrow morning and I want it to be a positive observation.

How about a humidifier and Vapo rub? A warm towel (wet and wring out a handtowel and then microwave it till it's hot...wrap it in another towel and lay it on your chest..don't burn yourself, lol)can help ease the congestion in your chest and will relax you as well.
Best of luck tomorrow!!

I've had a bad cough on and off for a couple of weeks, and finally talked to my doctor about it last week, because it was interfering with me getting any sleep. She said that any of the Robitussins were fine for pregnant women.

Your doctor said, though, that she doesn't want you taking a cough suppressant, so maybe that has something to do with how far along you are. I'm presently 32 weeks.

My doctor also mentioned that taking a hot shower and breathing in all that hot steam and breathing through a hot, wet washcloth helps, so I've been trying to do that everyday, too. But in all honesty, it doesn't help as much as the Robitussin. I tried to pick a Robitussin specifically for coughs and nothing else, cuz there are a LOT of different Robitussins for different combinations of complaints.

Congrats and good luck with your observation tomorrow!

Try rubbing Vicks Vapour rub on your chest that always works for me. Possible try some herbal medicine instead (if it's ok to use whilst you're pregnant).
