Xcaret is in the Mayan Riviera area which is approx. 1 hour and 20 min down, depending on traffic from Cancun Airport. However Xcaret is an eco-archaeological theme park where you can do tubing through caves, swim with the dolphins, cultural shows, snorkeling, archaeological tours, etc.
So when you say "resort xcaret" I'm sorry but there isn't one. There is the Occidental Grand Xcaret, but that is only because it is next door to Xcaret. This particular property has a man made beach and literally you blink and you will miss the beach! They have some very lovely resorts with wide white sand beaches. It also depends on if this is the resort you are even looking at and if the beach is an important part to you.
Also the Mayan Riviera isn't a town it is a stretch from 10 min down from the Cancun Airport all the way down about 4 1/2 hours. It is on the mainland, not an island. Playa Del Carmen is the city down there that you can take a ferry over to Cozumel which is the island just across. If you stay at a resort by town it will cost more, however if you stay at one 30 min from town for example you would be paying about a 40 dollar one way cab right to Playa Del Carmen that is IF you wanted to go into town.
