Thank you for the answers! My specific question is that do they have soup and salad on the menu as well as normal greasy spoon things? Do they have a variety of milkshakes?

Exactly what you expect from a no-frills 50's diner in LA. Good hearted gruff waitresses with food-stained uniforms & sneakers and bad teeth. Little off center white paper hats. Greasy omelets, pancakes & waffles. Chicken livers & onions for lunch. Pies stacked in round plastic displays. Delicious food you expect - in spite of previous words they have decent service from the staff. Long lines so get there early.
Have fun.

For dinner try the Carnitas at Llares and margaritas a block down on Pico. THE best!

Basic all-American comfort food prepared in an average way. The prices are what the major attractions is at Rae's and the place is usually crowded. Service tends to be a little curt.
