The strings look old

Sounds to me that the strings are vibrating off of a fret somewhere (touching a fret). Common problem with new guitars that haven't been set up properly. You probably need to adjust the neck truss bar after you tune up. To find it, look for a triangular shaped cover with two or three screws on the headstock near the string nut (at the base of the headstock in between the machine heads) After you remove this cover, you'll see a metal allen socket head. You'll need an allen wrench that fits this. Then you'll have to turn in about half a turn clockwise to put the proper arch into the neck so that the strings don't touch the frets. This is called changing the "action" or height of the strings from the fret board. Turn he truss rod one way, it raises it, the other way lowers it. Carefull! Don't over tighten it! It may break loose inside and ruin your new guitar. You'l have to tune up again after you fix it. Good luck!!!

Change the strings!!! Different strings make VERY different sounds. Find a brand you like and stick to it.

Most guitars have cheap stings on them, try switching them up and see if you still have a problem.
