Assassination is the deliberate killing of an important person, usually a political figure or other strategically important individual. An assassin or the assassin's employer usually has an ideological or political agenda, and regards the target as an obstacle to furthering his agenda,
So, the importance of the murdered person is in the perception of the assassin or the assassins employer. Yet, I would put that the person assassinated would at least need to be within the awareness of the greater public, though not necessarily famous.
John Lennon is considered to have been murdered, not assassinated. There was no political or idealogical benefit to his death. He was quite famous.
Further, a person could have, say, invented a renewable source of power generation that had no ill-effects on the environment that could be used to fuel homes, cars, etc. If, say, someone from a major fuel supplier arranged to have that person killed so he was unable to release the details or secrets of his discovery to the world-at-large, he could be considered to have been assassinated. There would be an idealology behind the murder. This man, not having made his discovery known, would not be a famous or influential man. Yet, with his discovery, he could be considered 'important', even if only to the assassin.

Assassination is generally reserved for political figures such as the heads of a country, or a government official.
Even when celebrities are killed, it is still called murder. John Lennon was murdered, not assassinated.

i might say assassinated impacts the existence of many tens of millions of human beings. because of the fact they died it affected how those human beings lived. homicide i think of might impact those on the brink of the kinfolk. Assasinated impacts the the lives of those that for the time of no way knew the guy who became killed. if your stay is replaced on the type you're making funds or the type you pay taxes, or who's making regulation. It impacts you. Assasination impacts each and every physique. homicide impact very few. yet assasination is homicide. the version is the way it impacts us.

if their murder was for political reasons, that is, the motive is political, then it is an assassination, despite who the person was, its all about the motive
