Give him a bottle or a pacifier when taking off and landing. It helps his ear pressure equalize. Make sure he's well fed before you leave and take 2 extra outfits in your carry on bag. Are you taking a car seat? If you didn't buy a seat for him, ask if there are any open seats on the plane. If you have assigned seating, you can ask someone to switch so you can get a seat next to him. If not, board with him early when they announce boarding for handicapped and those with small children and get him the seat next to you. Even if they don't have extra seats, you can stow the car seat in the overhead compartment. Do not give that baby medicine or anything to make him sleep. Some people do this and I don't like it. And relax. It's a short flight and he'll probably do just fine. And if he doesn't, it's still a short flight!

Take something to keep him entertained. Maybe some snack of some sort. He's only 4 months so maybe some teething rings and a pacifier. Babies tend to get fussy because if there is too much pressure in their ears the pacifier can help because the sucking action uncloggs the ears! Even if he doesnt take to the pacifier take one or buy one just for this.

If you can afford it... get a seat for him, so you can place the infant car seat with him sleeping in it. Otherwise, you'll have to take a chance for an open seat... and if one is not available, you'll have to carry him on your lap. Another option is if you have a baby carrier or sling. This way you can check the seat in if no open seats are available and wear him next to your body. Make sure you have water... and if you're not nursing, formula. On take offs and landings, you want him sucking on something to keep his ears from hurting. Nursing would be the best option (I did it with my son), but if you can't nurse, then feed him formula or water from a nipple to get him sucking at those times.
You'll be fine... 1 1/2 hours isn't bad. I was stuck on the plane for over 14 hours with my son...

I would recommend putting him in a sleeper as they are the most comfortable. Be sure to pack about 4 more in your carry on too. I travelled with my baby and only packed two extra sleepers. I spent an hour in the airport washroom washing them and drying them with the hand dryer. It wasn't fun. Have a good trip!!

My daughter used to doze off the on the spot we began driving, and changed into out fairly a lot till we stopped. then as she were given older, she hates sound asleep contained in the motor vehicle and could not often do it. Just wear clothes that will allow you to nurse easily and discreetly and he should be happy as a, well, a nursling. Have fun. And just in case, learn a few mother goose rhymes to recite if you don't have 'em down pat.

don't worry. i took my 3 month old on a 10 hour plane trip. everyting was fine. just make sure that your baby has something to suck on at takeoff and landing, to minimalize the pressure in his ears.
