What you need and damn near anyone in Canada should have installed in their cars is an engine oilpan warmer. In those below 0 temperatures the oil gets really really thick over night. And causes your car to put the starter under alot of strain turning your car over with thick oil. I think they sell a special blanket to wrap your oil pan in that you can keep plugged in over night to greatly reduce the problem your having and save you from having to keep replacing starters you're gonna burnup.
Alot of cars they sell in Canada already have these installed or come standard with them.
I bet you see alot of cars parked near you that have a 120 volt plug hanging out from the grill. That plug does what i just described. If I'm not mistaken if the heated Blanket seems too much of a hassle I think they sell a heated dipstick That you put in where your oil dip stick goes to do the same thing as the blanket. .Not sure if it runs off your car battery or if it plugs in to house current,But it may be the cheaper way to solve your problem

No. The first few seconds after the car starts are a little rough on it, being as the oil isn't circulating yet, but it's fine.
