Yes.

8 * 3 = 8 + 8 + 8 = 24 (8 added 3 times)

10 * 5 = 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 50 (10 added 5 times)

10/2 = 5 this is 10 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 (2 subtracted 5 times)

Look at the division problem 72/6 (72 divided by 6) this asks the questions how many times can I subtract 6 from 72:

72 - 6 = 66
66 - 6 = 60
60 - 6 = 54
54 - 6 = 48
48 - 6 = 42
42 - 6 = 36
36 - 6 = 30
30 - 6 = 24
24 - 6 = 18
18 - 6 = 12
12 - 6 = 6
6 - 6 = 0

12 times or 72/6 = 12

As multiplication is defined in terms of addition, division may be defined in terms of subtraction. It really depends on the number system you are working in (we usually work with Real numbers) but...

...multiplication / division and addition / subtraction are inverse operations of each other, respectively. Thus the operation of division by a certain number, for example, is exactly the same thing as multiplying by the multiplicative inverse of that certain number. E.g.

4/2 = 2 = 4*(1/2)

And subtraction of a certain number from another is exactly the same thing as adding the additive inverse. E.g.

5-2 = 3 = 5+(-2)

Due to this correspondence, what is true of the relationship of multiplication and addition is also true of the relationship of division and subtraction.

Multiplication is repeated addition

Multiplicalion Example

2 x 3 = 6

Addition Example

2 + 2 + 2 = 6

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Division is repeated subtraction

Division example

6/2 = 3

Subtraction example

6 - 2 = 4

4 - 2 = 2

2 - 2 = 0

Notice that 2 was subtracted from a quotient 3 times.
