Make a plaster casting in a bread loaf pan ( only fill halfway up ) and when it is completely dry, apply liquid sizing ( in the craft store with the glues ) and when dry, apply composition leaf in gold...much cheaper than real gold leaf and looks the same. Brush off excess leaf with a soft brush like a cosmetic brush.

Get a brick or something like it. Go to somewhere like Michael's and get gold wrapping paper. Then wrap up your brick. Usually if you go Lowe's or Home Depot you can find one. You also can use a block of wood.
