I have a XP computer and a windows 2000 computer and I want to use one as a back up.

I have them both hook to a router for DSL.

You can buy a special USB cable to do that, but it's better if you get a router and hook both to that.

If you have them both connected to a router, and they can both hit the Internet, they should be able to communicate with each other. Make sure both are setup for the same workgroup. Add a user account on both with the same user id and password. Finally share a folder on one or the other to share your data. The other can access the files by browing the Network Neighborhood in Windows Explorer.

Ofcourse not. You can do it smartly by making a simple Pc to pc network by getting a pc 2 pc network cable and 2 LAN cards.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on the one with WinXP, When you get to the end, Make sure you make the disk. Run the disk on the Win98 pc and now your networked.

You need an ethernet card for that and network cable which will automatically get conected.

Buy two Bluetooth device and Connect them on each PC, name them conveniently and Go connect.

You probably have an ethernet connection on both PCs, if not go buy the LAN card and go, go.
