Try looking at discount gowns. I don't know why certain gown features are almost inescapable every year but sometimes you can find gowns that don't follow the rule and for some reason if you find them you actually save money. It could be worse. I got married in a big butt bow year.

Wow you are smart. I was watching a show on designer dresses and the top designers were there and they said that only 5-10% of the women they fit for a strapless gown should really wear it. They say it's very overrated and most women can't pull it off.
There are several publications and shops. You shouldn't have a problem at all finding one.

Have you tried David's Bridal? I know J.Crew also designs wedding gowns that are simply elegant.

Did you try Ebay? You dont have to buy it there but they usually have a big selection and then you can go into a shop and tell them exactly what your looking for.
