The universe has nothing for nor against our existence. Good and bad things will happen to people, regardless if you deem them to be "Good" or "Bad." However, the people you consider jerks and assholes probably don't put up with the crap that nice caring people do, which is going to put the "Bad" people out of harms way and the "Good" people in the line of fire. The more abuse you accept, the more people will dish out. Sometimes you have to be a jerk or an asshole to stand up for yourself; it doesn't automatically make you a bad person.

it's an illusion, a temporary situation like a freeze frame. You only see today where the bad people only appear to be enjoying themselves. What you DON'T see is these same people not sleeping well because of guilt, fear of getting caught, whatever, and also some time down the road where life catches up to them. Look how many of them are rotting in prisons. And...the good people might SEEM to be having a hard time with all the pressures and headaches, but that's because they're doing what they're supposed to be doing, paying their bills, rearing their children, and showing love and goodwill to all. What you DON'T see in their lives is how well they sleep because of a clear conscience, how these good habits over time benefit them, win them approval of others, and result in good health, riches, and all good things. And, down the road, we see them coming out on top. Besides, what you're saying is a common myth. I don't see too many situations where that's the case. I only see the opposite.

Well what I tell my kids is this .. Sometimes when we sign on for this life, there aregoing to be fun times and bad times . The bad times usually divorce .. job loss . money losses .. usually send oyu on a differnt path . Deaths they suck and it just takes tons time to move on. Bad things do happen to great peopl e.. but they are not the product of the bad thing .. the bad thing isnt supposed to define them as a person... ( divorce) Bad things happen to people .. yeah some are nicer than others.. But the losses hit everyone .. It may not seem like that .. but eventually everyone has looses and gains. Its the person who uses these events to help them to be better people and survive the fathers sudden heart attack who are the true winners.. What comes around usually goes back . its true. keep being you .. and the universe and god will give back what you give .

Rabbi Harold S. Kushner wrote a very good book on exactly this subject titled, "When Bad Things Happen To Good People." You might like to read it.
I don't think that they "always" happen to good people. It is all just a matter of perspective. Plenty of jerks and assholes have bad things happen to them, and there are many good people who sail through life without major problems.

It all comes to down to randomisinity (if that's even a word).
A book written by Rabbi Shumar (something like can't think of full name) wrote a book called "When Bad Things Happen To Good People", he suggests that bad things happen to good people out of random occurences.
In terms of religion, people think why didn't God stop 9/11 or why didn't God stop the Beltway Snipers? The answer is that God cannot interfere with free will, the most cherished gift he gave us.
In terms of random events such as tornados, hurricanes, cancer and random diseases, it's all random. God is not testing us, he's not trying to make us stronger, he is not checking to see if we are still faithful (see book of Job).
It's a possible theory that God isn't all as powerful as we think he is, maybe God only built the world in 5.5 days rather than 6 (then the day of rest)....maybe it's up to us to finish his wonderful work. Maybe the end of days is our time to complete the world.
It's all maybes, all philisophical, no real answer.
You said "always" happen, thats not the case. Statistically wise, better things happen to good than to bad people, but in random cases, it's out of our, and possibly God's control.

because you can learn from bad things. i recently totalled my vehicle recently, know what i learned? just cause you think you can keep a vehicle on the road going above the speed limit on a gravel road doesnt mean you can. i dont remember losing control, but i woke up in a field with blood all over the inside of my van, i sat there in my crushed vehicle and i smelt fire, so i got out. for me to have come out of that in good shape let alone alive and with only three scars God must really love me, but the point is that i learned, and every mistake can be learned from. the bad people may be happy now, but when they're burning in hell well be in heaven laughing at them.

That is not exactly true. Good and bad things happen to good and bad people alike. You work to make more positive things happen in your life than negative but s*** happens.
Nobody claimed life is easy but in the end I believe it is worth the crap because I have gotten to have fun as well.
