Why do some liberals and some conservatives on this board ask stupid insulting questions or answer questions by simply insulting the other side? If your position is so correct why can't we just discuss it using facts, citing sources, and treating each other with respect?
Really, I'd like to know what calling each other names accomplishes or what you think it accomplishes? Do you think that you are going to win people over to your side?
This is a serious question.

Kermit--I might agree with you if the questions/answers were even a bit witty but they are just....full of vitrol. But you are probably right in that I don't have much of a sense of humor tonight.

I don't always like reading some of these types of questions...but I have to admit..this would be dull without them. Nothing gets your blood flowing like one of John Skerry's barbs.
So we need to develop a sense of humor about all of this and have fun with it.

Unfortunately there are people, myslef included at times, that feel so passionate about an issue that it is like a slap in the face when someone can dismiss everything you stand for as just a crass insult like "flagburning libral commie babykiller." It hurts. True enough that there are some people on here that use this as a sounding board for pessimism, bias, and baseless ranting. This happens on both sides.
While on occasion i have the propensity to answer a stupid question with a stupid response I limit it and take with a grain of salt, the vulgarity people can have.
Most people understand that democracy relies on adult conversation that is engaging, challenging, and sometimes frustrating, but it is easy to become passionate and lump people together as "left" or "right," when in fact, most people are not.
I vote democrat & republican. I share your frustration with people that get on here and generalize.

Basically they are people of low intelligence who don't appreciate that you don't have to agree with someones point of view but it helps both parties if they know what has formed that view. Informed debate enriches the forum. Name calling and insults simply show the individual would be better placed on a chat room for simpletons.

properly that's in simple terms undeniable lack of self assurance or them being an ***. even with the indisputable fact that it might want to correctly be Narcissism if that's severe, yet I doubt it. likely Bipolar. Narcissists are in fact quite smart so I again doubt that's that. in the journey that they wrestle to argue with you in simple terms say suitable on the starting up, truly mockingly, truly, wow you're so suitable, it quite is so smart and lead them to sense stupid, each and every of the even as faking niceness and being impresed (yet in an for sure insincere way) this may get to them. decrease them off and ignore about them in reality.

Its almost impossible not to. How many times do you answer a question only to come back to it later and have some sarcastic jerk insult or attack you? Maybe I should not do this, but my first instinct is to answer them in the same fashion.
It is depressing and frustrating, isn't it? Your absolutely right. We SHOULD be able to conduct ourselves as intelligent adults and not 3 yr olds, but I don't see that happening anytime soon....
Maybe we could ask for a ceasefire/truce, would that work?

agreed... it would make things simpler... the only problem is you have different interpretations of the facts... and then you get people that think that a different view of the facts is just "spin"... where sometimes, their own view may be just spin...
but beyond that, there are just a lot of idiots on here spreading propaganda.... and it's not even decent propaganda... it's the stupidest stuff you've ever read... I think half of us are actually stupider for reading some of these posts...

My problem is a lack of intelligence. When I left school after the 3rd grade I always promised myself that I would go back and get at least a 6th grade education, so I could cypher correctly. But instead I ran for president and people voted for me and low and behold I got to start my very own war. Cooler the rattle snake spit, huh.
