Whenever I am around quiet areas such as school, work etc. I start hearing a couple of frantic, loud voices inside my head describing everything I am doing at the moment, which is driving me crazy! No matter what I do, they will not stop, and I cannot concentrate; so in order to overtone them I have to listen to music or go to noisy places.
This has been going on for a few months, and its greatly affecting my performance at work, school etc...
Is this Normal? Should I seek help?
Thank you.

-Thank you all for the fast responds! I really appreciate the time and effort!
To answer a few questions: I am currently 17 years old; turning 18 in November.
If this is really only a stress-related issue, I guess I will have to try and find the source.
Again, thank you for the quick responds!

How old are you?

Most Schizo's have their psychotic breaks between the ages of 19-25.

You did not say your age, it could have helped. But because you mentioned school I guess you're a young person. Number one: don't panic, that will make things worse. Number two: as long as these voices in your head are "saying" things that are conform to reality, there is no reason to panic. It could be only a sign of you going through a certain phase that is hard to deal with. Meaning that this can be a temporary thing, IF you handle it well.

Talk to a doctor, don't run straight into the trap of heavy medication. Maybe some help for a few nights of real good sleep PLUS allowing yourself to actively enjoy some nice outings will cure it for ever.

Point is, that you need to keep breathing and trust somebody on this problem.

Wishing you all the best!

Yes you should definitely seek some medical help. I can not say for sure what you are experiencing, and schitzophrenia is not an easy diagnosis so do not let anyone tell you differently. There is a very good chance it is stress related, but either way you definitely need to seek some help, especially since it is affecting your life the way it is.

Never start doubting your sanity or you will go insane. Assume that this a completley normal reaction to too much stress in your life and let as much(stress) go as possible until things start to improve. I have friends that this has happened to and before you know it they were labelled schizophrenic, bi-polar etc stuck on all kinds of meds and shuffled through the mental health system for years without any improvement but increasingly low self esteem, paranoia(because they didn't know if anything in their head was normal any more and because having a mental health label is so stigmatised and they were oppressed and discriminated against) The best thing to do is try to get control of your own thinking at all costs before this happens to you. Show them balance balance balance at all costs..... It can be done!

It is probably worth seeing a professional and talking about what is going on.

What you're describing doesn't sound to me like something you ought to ignore. If it turns out to be anything serious you'd at least get a jump on it as early as possible. The fact that you say it is affecting your performance at school and work is reason enough to see this as something worth talking to a professional about. It may be nothing, but, again, its worth looking into just in case.

yes, you should see a psycologist. My brother had the same thing and it took about 3 years to diagnose. He is on meds, but he could have cought it sooner if he would have understood what was going on. with the right treatment and early intervention, people can recover.
