there are 365 and a quarter days in a year. this is taken to be just 365, every 4 years though, the quarters get saved up so to speak and added on to the end of Feb as the 29th in a leap year so that makes it 366

There are 365 1/4 days in a regular year. We just round it down to 365. In leap years an extra day is added, at the end of February.
