I hear euphemisms every day...usually uttered by those in positions of authority to hide unpleasant realities. I guess it is easier to call Iraq a "theater of operations" rather than the urban battlezone it is. And no one gets shell shocked anymore...isn't that something...but a lot of troops coming home have PTSD. We even acronymize the euphemism to lessen its impact.

And then people wonder why we can't solve our problems. For crying out loud, we can't even talk about them...

I would have to say my "favorite" one is simply that we refuse to call things WARS. We're only having 'conflicts'. Apparently, wars can kill people, but conflicts all occur on paper and are inherently diplomatic. Hmmm.

I would have to say the first one that comes to mind is "medications" or "medicine" or even "pharmecuticals", which are all euphanisms for another big problem in this country: DRUGS.We're SUPPOSED TO be fighting a war AGAINST drugs (which is a complete joke, but that's for another time) and yet noone gives a sh*t about taking "medications", which are the same exact damn thing.

There's a drug out there for everything these days. If you're too tired, take a drug to wake you up. If you can't sleep (often a side effect of the drug you took to wake yourself up) then take another drug to help you sleep. If you have a headache, take this drug and it will go away, but don't take that one because it won't kick in for another three seconds and who wants to wait that long? God forbid we should actually try to strengthen our immune system by letting something run it's course, because then we would miss a day or two of work, and that would be an international tragedy.

My favourite euphemism is "hey, you look like a phd in chemistry". Dont be so pompus buddy, it'll be the end of you.

Oh and, have you ever walked a miles in a slave's shoes?

Have you?

And last time I checked, son, the same white people who enslaved the blacks were not the same ones who freed them.

Oh well, its fun to see you spout your ignorance

My favourite euphemism is really fundamentalism, as opposed to extremism

Great point! But my favorite euphemism was on "The Grinch " animated version from the 70's. They called the outhouse ,"The Euphemism". I thought that was so cute.
