I am looking into getting a crooked nose fixed but am really afraid of hospitals and that sort of thing. What is it like? Does it hurt and is going under scary? Operating rooms seem really creepy to me.

No, you fall asleep during the entire operation.

When you wake up, your nose will be stuffy and it will itch. You have to be calm and ignore that and learn to breathe a little bit differently. If there is significant pain after you wake up, they have medication for that. Often they will have you rest and observe your breathing for a couple of hours before letting you go home.

I've never had it done but I have entertained the idea a time or two. They knock you out completely before they send you to the operating room. When I was a kid, they would put you under by having you drink a small cup of nasty tasting anesthetic. Nowadays, I believe they either give you a shot or vapors, at least that's what I have been told. Some hospitals may use different methods. I haven't been to hospitals in ages so I understand your fear but if this is something you really truly want then do it. The only way to overcome your fears is to face them head on.

While you're under, you won't feel anything. But you may or may not have some discomfort following, which is not the same as outright pain.

yes it hurts, but only for awhile (they do have to break bone ya know)
an operating room is just a very clean, sterilized room.
you'll be taken into the room, the anesthesiologist will give you drugs to knock you out. (they will give you prescriptions for meds to control the pain for after the surgery)
the anesthesiologist is in the room the whole time!
its not scary going under, for some it may be.
if it is a scary thought for you let the doctor know while at your appointment. can you think of the one place you want to be, or go?? close your eyes, yes close them! now picture it. take that picture with you and keep that in your thoughts. nurses and the dr's will answer any questions or ideas or silly notions you have in your head.
ask them anything, and everything. remember they've prob. heard it all, so your not going to sound stupid or anything!! next thing you know it will be over, you'll be glad you did it. and it will be something you'll be glad you did!
Best of luck!! and pre-congrats on the new nose!

I had a nose job about 15 years ago; the best thing i ever done for myself; just think of how great you'll look!!!! a world of difference!! Don't be afraid is not bad at all; if i would have to do it again i would do it in a second; they put like a little cast on top of your nose; after a week; you will be just find. Did the Dr showed you the before and after???
good luck.

Operating rooms are not creepy.
They are just rooms with a lot of tools that are sterile.
Yes having a nose job hurts.
Yes getting it packed and having to sleep in an up right position isn't fun.
Why not get it fixed in an plastic surgery institute if you are afraid of a hospital.
Just remember to make sure there are professionals including anesthesiologists that are trained to take care of anything that may occur.

Get rhinoplasty - Nose job surgery in India. Cosmetic Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges cosmetic surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for American and Canadian patients, as cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor I personally believe that your cosmetic surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got a couple of cosmetic surgery procedures in India like the breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift through the forerunners healthcare. She is more than very happy with the results. She just paid 30% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company. I personally have seen the wonderful results and am particularly impressed with the kind of quality care she got from this company. I hope this helps.

Getting a nose job hurts because they break your nose - If they give you a sedative before - going under is kind of pleasant

very much. Be very carefull and select a very well trained surgon. Get some wone who has the best reputation and don't take the cheap way out. There is always a risk that you could have seepage from your brain after surgury.
