Lemon and fresh air. Use a real lemon cut in half and rub down all of the inside. Once you've done that, use white vinegar mixed with water and wash it completely. Don't worry, the vinegar smell won't stay. Vinegar only smells when it's wet. Once it dries, you'll be fine.
Place a box of arm & hammer baking soda in the freezer and keep the freezer door open for at least one (1) hour. the smell should have dissipitated. If it hasn't, repeat the process.

I would avoid bleaching as it may seep into the packaging.
Use (Arm & Hammer) baking soda and a damp, warm cloth give it a good scrub. Then using a rinsed cloth, wipe off the residue and the odor should be gone. It may take a second attempt to rid of the odor completely.

This may sound crazy, but seriously, COFFEE GRINDS.. it can be used to store in an empty frig/freezer, and even to absorb odors. Bleach will assist you in any mold and contamination issues. I know this because my family is military and we've moved several times, and moved/stored both appliances. If you can acquire the wrapped up coffee grind packets, (they are used to put in coffee pots, not the U-cone shaped open filters.) The ones that I'm referring to are completely round. Place several inside and let it work it's magic. I agree with the mild bleach, or even vinegar and water, for a contaminate factor to be used in conjuction with an odor eliminator. Plus bleach is so strong, and hard on the hands, skins, eyes, lunch and clothing.
I hope these and other suggestions are beneficial. My best to you!

First, leave the refrigerator door open. Remove the shelves and wash them with dish soap and rinse them with lots of water. Spray the inside of the fridge with an antibacterial detergent such as Fantastik. and rinse well with a cotton rag that you rinse in water very often.
Good luck

You will find that using 2 teaspoons of vinigar in water will take away even the most stubborn smells. It is also useful for removing water stains from flower vases.
