The idea that the pedophile does what he does because he was himself a victim of sexual abuse is absolutely ridiculous and only a fabrication provided by the pedophile himself in an attempt to somehow justify his actions.
Apparently it has worked because using this excuse has oftentimes lead to a more lenient sentence than would otherwise have been given.
I myself was violently beaten and verbally assaulted by a stepfather during my early childhood yet I do not stalk the neighborhood kids waiting for the opportunity to snatch them from behind the bushes in the park and beat the **** out of them so that they too, may know what it was like. If the experience of being abused was truly so terrible and traumatic by what logic would you want somebody else to feel that way? That doesn't make any sense- unless you're just that gullible and stupid enough to buy it.
Not that I believe anyway a person can really suffer for a lifetime because someone played with their little pp at the age of six.
With regards to being a witness of violent crimes perpetrated against someone else and using it as an excuse to commit the crime yourself I don't buy that either. The idea that seeing something can somehow cause you to do it defies logic. This is the same excuse people use to try to censor things like video games and cartoons for no other reason than they are overprotective and opinionated.
If we use this arguement and blame visual and audio stimuli for acts of violence and stupidity why then do we not attack the news?
Why is it that the violence we observe on national television while watching the six o'clock news somehow escapes blame while a fictional character in a cartoon is somehow at fault?
I would have to beat myself senseless with a ballpeen hammer to come to a conclusion like that.
With regards to the behavior of serial killers not all of them fall into the category you described, just a large percentage. As far as this is concerned, the focus in my opinion should go towards society itself if one is looking for a cause/effect scenario.
It could be that the sexually repressed loner in school might be the victim of conformist society. Notice that it is acceptable in the vast majority of America's schools to mock the intellectual and hold the athlete in higher esteem.
We applaud the sports afficionado for his knowledge of professional athletics and praise the highschool football player for excelling in something that is trivial at best, provides no obvious contribution to society, to the wealth or comfort of the community or to it's physical survival.
It has become commonplace to label the intellectual a "nerd", "geek", "dork" or "dweeb" while putting the musclebound idiot on a pedestal. Of course the geek will become quiet, reserved and find comfort in the fictional world of a comic book rather than deal with the harsh reality of his life.
Why do we condemn him for it without placing at least some of the blame on the cold hearted assholes who bullied him throughout his youth when he finally goes on a murderous rampage seeking revenge for his torment?
It could be that none of what I have posted here is relevant or even true, it is after all, unproven simply my opinion and only a theory- but still something to think about.

Your choice of screen name kinda says it all, doesn't it?
The best psychiatrists, psychologists, and sociologists have been unable so far to come up with a clear formula.
Oversimplifying as you have done doesn't help with these problems, it makes them worse, and puts innocent people at risk.
