I do not think that a Bush will be president after the 2008 election.
George Bush Jr. will not attempt to override the 22ND amendment, and wouldn't get the required votes in Congress if he tried. The country is just too divided politically at this time.
George Bush Sr. will not run even though he is technically eligible to serve another term.
Jeb Bush does not have the name recognition to make any type of real run at this time.
So that pretty much rules out the Bushes in 08.
However, your contention that the Republicans won't have a strong candidate may be completely premature. In a press conference today Rudy Giuliani has announced that he is is seriously considering running in 08. He has stated he will not make a decision until after the November election. If he should choose to run it will be as a Republican, and he has enough popular bi-partisan support to win. Conceivably he could even steal away New York from the Democrats.

The 22nd Amendement to the Constitution of the United States limits Presidents to 10 years in office or 2 4-year elected terms, whichever comes first. In order to change, or override, this Amendment, it would take another Amendment. To propose a new Amendment, a committee would have to be formed, and identical bills proposed in both the House and the Senate. The House and the Senate must then vote on these proposed bills. In the House, a minimum of 290 Representatives would have to vote in favor of the Amendment Proposal. In the Senate, a minimum of 67 Senators must vote in favor of the Amendment Proposal. After this is successfully accomplished, it would go to the individual states for ratification. In order for the Amendment Proposal to be ratified, and a new Amendment created, a minimum of 38 states would have to vote in favor of the Amendment Proposal (either by Legislature vote, or in a General Election referendum vote).
George H.W. Bush is still eligible to be President as he was only elected once and served for 4 years, but the chances of him running again are zero.
Jeb Bush will not make a run for the Presidency because of the fear of a "Dynasty" Presidency.
Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and Arizona US Senator John McCain will most likely be the top two Republican candidates for the 2008 Presidential Race.

Don't worry! He can't run for a third time, no matter
what. The last President to hold office four conse-
cutive terms was Franklin Delano Roosevelt,
a Democrat. The Republicans were pissed at that
so they pushed for the 22nd amendment of the Cons-
titution prohibiting a third term.
Can you imagine President Ronald Reagan in a
third term!!! He was already afflicted with Alzimer's
disease on his second term. Of course we the people
wouldn't have known it, because Nancy Reagan and
her cohorts would've surppressed that and they would-
've run the country, making decisions based on astro-
logy!! Two terms. That's it.

Hmmm... I may be wrong.. but I believe that it would take an act of Congress AND a majority vote of the people to change the constitution enough to allow him to remain in the Presidency...
which will NOT happen... the USA may not have the best possible government but I believe it is better than any other existing government so far.. at least the people get some semblance of the possibility of controlling what it does... sometimes... maybe.

Although its unlikely, I have heard that if a sitting President is in the crux of a war, they he can by "some process" remain president until the conflict is settled or under control. I heard that maybe they can delay elections? I do not know how true this information is? However, if it looks like that a Democrat might take the White House, I wouldn't put it past them to try it. I sure hope its a bunch of crap for all our sakes!

That was his initial strategy, to start a war so that he could stay in presidency. He'll have to finish the war he started, otherwise it wouldn't look to good on the UN and the other electorates would have no clue as to how to end what he got so deep into. To make sure there were no mistakes, he raises the oil prices after they took control of it in Iraq and then lowers it dramatically before the coming elections so people would favor him? Just a thought.

The only way that he would be able to stay in office is if the Congress were to create an amendment to override the 22nd Amendment. The 22nd amendment sets the maximum number of terms a president can serve at two, and it's extremely unlikely that that would be changed anytime soon.

I dont think you will see this happen. The only way there will be a Bush as President next time is if brother Jed decides to run for president.

i feel he and his party Will us war and the fact that if someone new comes in that they will not know whats going on there fore it leaves Bush in office to finish the job a job that should have never been started.all he wanted was oil and that's gone sky high and the USA is steeling it from those people we all have to suffer for his and his daddy's F-ups. the man has done nothing for the USA but take our young men and women and send them to die. all this war crap would stop if we just pulled our tropes and help them financely to rebuild. but we need to leave and let then do it that's all they want
