I usually start after December 1st. But, I know many who start right after Thanksgiving. And stores are starting now, in September. What about the rest of you?

In our family it was considered 'bad luck' to put them up before Thanksgiving, though no one can explain to me why. They'd generally do it the day after Thanksgiving. I love decorating for Christmas, and went along with the family, but found I tired of them quicker. It also depended on having a real tree or a fake one, as we couldn't decorate the real one early if we wanted it to last for Christmas.

I found that somewhere between Thanksgiving and the first week of December, I'd put up the village and the Christmas lights, so others could enjoy them longer. Then we'd decorate the house around the 7th or so. If we had a real tree, we'd buy it that weekend and decorate it as well.

We leave it up until after New Year's, again family tradition. However, we personally leave ours up that long since it took so long to decorate, we hate to just tear it right down, and we also have New Year's parties, and other's want to see how our tree turned out.

I start right after Thanksgiving. I take down the fall decorations and replace them with Christmas decorations. I figure if I have to get up in the attic to put back the fall stuff, I might as well get the Christmas stuff down at the same time. I love Christmas, and I do enjoy the decorating so I like to enjoy it as long as possible, I usually don't take the Christmas decorations down until the day before New Year's Eve. Then I decorate for my New Year's Eve party. I'm tired just thinking about it...maybe I'll just skip the decorating until Valentine's Day. Ha Ha.

Anytime after Thanksgiving is fine. I just don't like by passing Thanksgiving. Seems stores go from Halloween right into Christmas. Let the stores do it, but at home enjoy Thanksgiving first. There are cute decorations for that season to.

Everyone I know who decorates for Christmas does so right after Thanksgiving.

Just because the stuff is in stores right now, they don't really expect you to decorate your home yet. Plus they still have Halloween stuff available at that time. They simply want you to get the "best" new decorations of the year before anyone else who shows up later and thus missed out. The 'first come first serve' ideology is not limited to holiday decorations either.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving. And make sure that you keep all of the decorations up untill after January 1st. It is bad luck for a whole year to take them down before that.

I actually started putting out my Christmas decorations just before Labor Day. Mind you, I'm having to sneak it out a little at a time, just because the husband is HUGE into Halloween. Of course, we don't actually turn the lights on until Thanksgiving night (except for testing of course.) The main bulk of the outside decorating will start November 1, just as soon as the tombstones and ghosts get packed away....

Of course, when you decorate really depends on what makes you happy. Heck, if I thought my hubby wouldn't go into cardiac arrest, I'd start the Christmas decorating at Easter!

The day after Thanksgiving

It really depends on if you are having a real tree or an artificial one. A real tree will not last through Christmas if you put it up too early. If it's a real tree, wait until at least the 2nd week of December. An artificial tree can be put up whenever you feel the spirit of Christmas move you. My mom always put ours up the day after Thanksgiving and left it up until after New Year's.

We always started the day after Thanksgiving. I had a friend that they put their tree up in September every year, and left it up until like the end of January.
