I THINK SOME OF THESE NEOCONS THAT CAN PLAY ARM CHAIR QUARTERBACKS WOULDN'T BE SO GUNG HO IF THEY WERE FORCED TO BE OVER THERE!!

The draft would change the views, and the insults of the chickenhawk Neocons. Staying at home blogging about Liberals on the Internet isn't helping the war efforts you know.

Yes, I agree, there should be a draft. There are some gung ho'ers that would change their tune. On the flip side, there would also be a lot of the liberal, roll over types that would change their tune also. On a societal level, the draft, or required military service would benifit our country. It would give the young dreamers something more to base their rantings upon. Ninety percent of them don't know anything of the military. They write off the military as a bunch of gung ho baby killers. If they were required to serve, they would see that the military is made up of folks from all walks of life. They are your neighbors, relatives, friends. They aren't some group of humans bred to be military fighting machines. They are individuals who are trying to secure our freedoms, our way of life. Be it armchair quarterbacking, pro baseball playing, or living the dream of becoming a small business owner. These are freedoms that are mostly unique to our country. I served, during peace-time and war time, and I would do it again. does that make me a war mongering neo-con? No, it makes me someone who can at least wake up in the morning and know that no matter what happens, I did my part in helping my country be what it is today. I am proud that I gave of myself. If the liberals want to give all of this away, that is their choice, I helped ensure that they have that freedom. So, go on and continue calling patriotic americans, neo-cons. You have that right. Good luck to you and lets all pray for a draft in the near future.

The draft will improve our military. It will provide a wide range of different types of people..but won't include a real representation of the upper class' children. The middle class will provide their children like they always do in times of threat. I am a Democrat and think the violence may be just beginning. I also have a 15 year old boy...who I am trying very hard to convince to get a college education before anything. I don't want him to get drafted, but he might enlist anyway...he is very opinionated and politically opposes the war intellectually, but he's a macho little turd.

The upper, richer class is supposed to provide jobs, pay a lot of taxes, and patriotically commit Industry to any war effort. In return the rest of us need to buy their stuff, send our kids to die, and not complain that the rich kids don't get drafted.

The middle and lower class kids are cannon fodder, but the rich kids can't wear infantry blue and any gold braids they get are honorary.

If the rich don't do their part in times of crisis, why should the other kids fight their wars for them.

A draft would be necessary if we became engaged in North Korea (China could jump in at that point) and Iran simultaneously, which, although improbable, is at least possible. And what of a draft? There might be less crime and generally less lazy apathy from the younger generations if they learned a little military discipline.

OK. What about you? Arm chair quarterback for the left, are you willing to serve your country?

No, that draft going through your head via your ears should be sufficient for the next two generations.

There was a draft earlier so I closed the window.
Much better now.

Canada needs an influx of labourers to help with our booming economy. During Viet Nam tons of Americans fled north to get away from the draft, and we were glad to have them. I'd love to see it happen again.

God, no! They should all come home and let those people figure out their own problems. Stick to all the problems in your own country and fix them first.
