I'm going to assume the "three sections" of colonial America are New England, the middle-Atlantic states and the South.

Four similarities:

1. all three sections speak English overwhelmingly.

2. All three sections are populated with British immigrants as the single largest ethnic group in the population.

3. All three sections are heavily rural, yet have vital cities growing along the COAST and the major rivers, since water is the chief means of long-distance transportation and commerce.

4. All three sections face an unknown native Indian population to their west.

Four differences:

1. Escape from religious prosecution was an important element in the settling of New England (and one other state, Maryland, originally a haven for Catholics).

2. From the middle 1700's and forever afterward, New York City became far away the colonies (and the USA's) largest city. The South remained mostly rural for centuries after colonial times.

3. Fishing and whaling were much more important in New England than in the middle-Atlantic and Southern colonies.

4. Slaves were landed and traded to the Virginia colony in 1621. Slaves rapidly became and important element in Southern economics, law and culture. This was less true in the middle Atlantic states and slaves were scarcely a factor in New England during colonia times. This geographical differentiation was even quite evident in the churches and predominent denominations of the colonies. Therefore, the seeds of disunion and civil war were sown early in the colonial period.

If you're supposed to come up with answers for those questions, they should have been covered in class or in the book. But, since you're looking for help, here are some steps to follow.

1. Read the part in your book where it talks about the sections of Colonial America.
2. Define the three sections -- write them down in three columns, just take small notes
3. Look at what you've written and compare them. You should have your answers right there.

Good luck!

This isn't the answer, but a hint: think about what each section produced, what kind of people settled in each place, what form of religion each practiced, the climate in each of the sections. For example, an obvious one: which sections had large amounts of slaves and why?

Try reading the history text book in front of you. That's what it's there for. Just think... millions of people actually did homework without help from Yahoo! Answers.
