use tampons....pads make a mess!! At least in my experience they do.
But if you must use pads, bring along some feminine wipes to keep yourself clean down there. Make sure you take a garbage bad too, don't leave pads or tampons laying around in nature polluting the earth and attracting the attention of animal predators.....I don't mean to scare you, but blood attracts things like bears and mountain lions. I actually prefer to NOT go camping while on my period for this simple fact.

take a bag with you and deposit them in the bag and when you are done camping ... thow the bag away in the nearest trash receptical. that sucks im sorry. ive been there though. you'd have to handle tampons the same way.

Bring plenty of plastic shopping bags with you. and relax plenty of women do this as well. Enjoy the camping. Don't let it slow you down.

Bring a ziplock bag with you to keep your used ones- and keep them away from your tent as some bears can smell the blood and think it is food!
