I know what you are going through...I have a friend that I met through my job about four years ago, but never actually met in person. We have only e-mailed and talked on the phone. I am so attached to him that I have thought of giving up everything I have worked so hard for just to move across the country to be with him. He makes me laugh harder than anyone else I have ever known, but he can be so serious when I need him to be. We just kinda clicked during our first conversation and I know the love I feel for him is real. I can't exlain it, but I understand it.

Yes, and it can happen very rapidly. Emotionally attachment usually comes before trust also. My kids never met a relative but developed an attachment through little contact.
Men and women do this all the time.

can't answer for women but i can say that every guy is attached to someone he has never met - his dream girl. that perfect image of a woman that would make his sexual fantasies come true. tony robbins explains how something like this can happen. he call it mirroring. someone that picks up on the words you use, the way you pronounce them, the tempo and flow of your voice. people like people that are like them. people that have this talent make you feel comfortable and like you have known them all your life. have you ever met someone and after just a few minutes of talking to them felt like you knew them really well or did not like them and couldn't figure out why? if you don't like them instantly it is because in the back of your mind they either sound like, look like or act like someone else that you don't like or had a problem with in your life. consciously you may have forgotten about that person but subconsciencely the pain is still there. please be careful of this person. people that are the best at this technique are all in jail. they are called con men. i'm not saying that is the case with your gentleman friend but stranger things have happened from these type of acquaintences.

Emotions are feelings, such as>>> a strong liking or love that you feel.
You can become deeply attached because those things that you like or love about that person are pleasing to you, emotionally.
