It really helps if you know what you want to put in it first. Equipment will vary quite a bit. Buy saltwater aquariums for dummies (excellent book) and scan through these articles/pictures to help you decide what you want and what you need to sup[port them

First, ignore that first answer-- it is devoid of crucial information. You have to cycle a tank, regardless of how long you left a bare tank running, it won't cycle until certain specifics are met.

Saltwater fishkeeping is fun and not as much work as you'd expect. There are a few ways you can go.

Easiest (not necessarily best) way to get started is to buy a "nano" tank. These come ocean ready with lights and a filter built in. However, they are a bit pricier than buying the specs on their own.

How big do you want your tank to be? I've set up 6 saltwater aquariums and I also work at a fish store-- I've put up everything from 2.5 gallon mini-tanks to monsters.

If you'd like, I can talk you through what you need to do, step-by-step, via e-mail. It will allow for you to ask/follow up on questions. My e-mail is only_gatsby@yahoo.com, and my name is Bob.
