Do a web search for "Your State" association of Realtors... And you can go from there.

Each state in the US has a licensing bureau or department which will be able to tell you if a realtor is real and licensed. There are usually too many names to post on a website, but the licensing department will be able to tell you.

Actually, being a Realtor is a totally separate concern from being licensed. Go to http://www.realtor.org/ to find out about whether they're a Realtor - which is a trade association. To find out if they're licensed in your state, go to your state's department of Real Estate, and find their database of licensees. California's is here:

If you are looking at hiring a agent, ask lots of questions:
Have you taken any courses or certifiections?
What year did you get your license?
How many homes have you sold? can you give me examples of homes sold in my area?

You are also going to want to ask about their fees, what kind of percentage they get, how they plan to market your home, stuff like that. :) For me this is the best way to find out if your realtor is a good one, because honestly in a lot of states it's not hard to get the license, it's hard to sell once you get it. :)

You can check to see if they have a license on your state departmetn of real estate website. If you want to see if they are a REALTOR you will need to check REALTOR.org

i can advise you in michigan, which is where i'm a licensed realtor, but i'm assuming it's about the same in all states. go to your state's home page, usually something like http://www.michigan.gov and find the search box. type in words to the effect of "verify a license" and hit enter. it is usually in the department of labor and economic growth category, which is where most business licenses are issued from. hope this helped you!

Usually your local or state government has that information online on their website.

Or go to their 'Boss" and ask to see a copy of their license.

Realtors have to work 'under a Broker'. They cannot work by themselves.

Good luck.
