When I do ask them for money, they always give me 20. But it's my senior year of high school, and I do want to go out with my friends more than they are accustomed to. Please bear in mind that I'm literally a nerd and that I've neevr really had a boyfriend(my parents are very strict, conservative Indians). They tell me that my job in life right now is to focus on my studies, go to college, and then get married to the guy they pick. However, I do want to have some fun. I don't feel guilty about asking them to pay for AP fees, SAT fees,(school related fees) and clothes( I don't spend a lot on clothes--I usually only buy clothes during massive sales). But when I ask them fro money to go out to dinner with my friends, I feel bad. Granted, I only ask maximum once a week, and they never complain. But I still feel bad. How much is it okay for me to ask them in a month?

~They are definitely not poor. I don't really qualify for any substantial amounts of student aid money because my father makes quite a lot.
~I do volunteer, quite a LOT. My father is the founding chairman/CEO of a charity organization(in addition to his normal job) and I volunteer for the organization. Ialso olunteer to teach at my Sunday School. I also teach younger students how to dance for free at my dance classes.
~I feel guilty because my parents think of me as some sort of supernerd, and although they don't directly say anything to me, they're the kinds who would think that an hour of tv is and hour wasted.
~I guess my question really is, how can I convince my parents that I'm old enough to get a job and maintain my grades? ANd if they say no to that, how much money can I reasonably ask them for in a month?

I would recomend you sit down and talk to your parents about your needs and goals since they dont want you to work and you sound like a good kid then they shouldn't have an inconvinience in either giving you a set amount of money but if you still feel guilty then you should realy explain to them why you need to work im sure they will understand you just be honest.

If they don't want you to get a job, then it's ok to ask them for money from time to time, but only ask if you know they can afford it. If they are poor then it's not right to ask.
If you feel really bad abut asking for money, maybe purpose the idea of doing some baby sitting, kids go to bed early, and you'll have plenty of time to focus on your studies, and make your own money so you don't have to ask them as much.
Tell them you want some job experiance, so that when you get a good job after college you will be more greatful for it.
If they still say no, be happy because you are really only one year away from college, apply for a school a little ways away and be happy because you'll get out a lot more then.

Some kids get EVERYTHING. Other kids have parents who want to leave an impression on them that will last for life. The older you get though, the more you will want to go out with friends and experience things; and it starts to cost more. It all depends on your parent's budget. Through years of experience with their budget (yes/no buy this or not), they pretty much know what they will shell out for and what they won't - it all depends on how much they have in the bank. Your mom and dad like to shop - so they won't deny you the experience. When they spend so much that they stop saving money, then you will know there is a problem. That's the key.

My old man was such a fart. He had lots saved up and didn't buy me anything.

If they know what you want the money for and if youre a good student and they trust you....ask to do some xtra chores around the home like cleaning garage or closets or drawers or such....allowing that they know all the details of your outing. Save your money for the outings instead of clothes is another idea and you might try doing that first, show you are responsible that way. Or, dont go out with your friends and volunteer at the hospital instead. ;)

when you go to college there is a little thing called work-study. Thats where you work and the university gives you money.
as for now...yeah I was in the SAME situation, but my parents arent indian they are caribbean so they usually gave me more than a 20.
save up you 20's. That way you will have money to spend later.

I think that you should ask them how much they would be willing to give you in one month. Maybe they can give you all of the money at once. Then you can do whatever you'd like with the money and also learn how to manage money better.
