It is the color of the National Team, called "Azzurri".
It's an historical tradition, before the creation of the Italian Republic, the Italian Regal Family (Savoia) had color "azzurro" (blue) in their flag and that color was adopted by the soccer National Team to respect the Regal tradition.
Since then the color has been kept in the Italian shirt.
Even though it's not a color on our flag!!
