It has been awhile since using DOS and cannot remember how to run program from windows. Have a few programs that must be used in DOS.

Go to the START menu and go to the Programs section. Click on Accessories, then click on COMMAND PROMPT.

This will give you the familiar DOS window.

The only way to get to DOS from windows (that I know of) is: Start / Run / type cmd or command. (either works)
That will give you the DOS prompt. Do your DOS thing from there.. almost all the'old' commands work, but you can always type: help [the command you want help for]
EXAMPLE: C:\ help dir
C:\ help tree etc.

i became a 32bit XP consumer too for the full time it became out. I geared up a clean device for homestead windows 7 sixty 4 bit It purely took me 3 weeks to get use to the 7! in case you get win 7 professional or ultimate you get the "XP Emulator" so so which you may use an XP face! Get the homestead windows 7 sixty 4 bit you wont be sorry!

you can eith select the MS dos prompt from the accessories folder or you can run command cmd

Try MSDOS. That is the only way that I know how to access DOS from Windows.
