Hello, I am having a planned c-section due to a previous c-section 12 years ago. Since it has been so long I have forgotten about the recovery from a c-section. The date is Nov. 13th and my husband's family wants to have Thanksgiving at our house and to see the baby. I am wondering if I will even be up to it because it is only a couple weeks after the delivery. My mother will be here already to help out and my husband loves to cook, so I won't be expected to cook or clean, just want to know if anyone has experience with a full house to entertain soon after delivery and if it maybe should be post poned.

I was in the gym working out 3 weeks after I had mine, that was my only c-section, since you have had one previously, it might even be shorter. Just get up and walk around as soon as possible and as much as possible, or else it WILL be alot worse!!

I have not had a c-section, but dont do it unless you can be assured that you will not have to do one thing except sit there. If it were at my house I am the type of person who would not be able to handle others cooking and cleaning for me and would end up trying to do too much and end up in bed for a week. I had a "normal delivery" with my first child and there would have been no way I could have handled a house full of people for a dinner. I was sore, tired and getting used to a new baby and I did not have major surgery. In my opinion I would have to say "see you at Christmas".

My second C-section was MUCH better than my first. If you rest up, stay on top of your meds, and let everyone else clean and cook and all that, you'll probably enjoy having a houseful of folks.

My incision was closed with Dermabond, which is basically surgical-grade superglue. I could shower right away, I never had to deal with any wound care, and the worst of it was over within a few weeks.

Don't get me wrong: to get back full core muscle strength and to be able to do most things without pain can take months, even years. But to hang out in an easy chair and enjoy your family should be fine as long as you're sensible before and after.

Have fun.

I had an unplanned c-section several years ago on November 19th. I think if you are taking good care of yourself and your new baby -- and letting other people take care of the house, the guests, the cooking, the cleanup, then things should go ok. If you get stressed easily, and like to be in control of things, and might push yourself too much in order for things to be as you envision them in your head, you might want to postpone. I'd only be wary of too many people touching the baby...

We moved 4 weeks after our son was born... Thanksgiving was much easier to deal with than that!

Congrats on your new baby... take care.

Do it only if you will not be expected to do anything but sit and show off the baby. You will still be very sore. The more you move the better it is afterwards. (But not to the point of cooking and cleaning) Good luck and congrats.
