Give the ten to yahoohoo. The answer is correct however your info isn't. That reference was just mentioned in a movie I saw recently regarding an impending battle, in which one side was seriously outnumbered. Grrrrrrrrrrr now I cannot recall the title. Anyway,, that's off topic, but the overwhelmed army was less than 2000 and had little but bows and arrows against guns and cannon,,, plus the new Gattling gun. I'll remember it and get back to ya....sigh. oopS GOT IT... "Last Samurai" Tom Cruise.

There was the battle of Thermopalye which was between the Greeks and the Persians. However the Greeks had more than 3,000 men as there were other Greek city states there besides the Spartans. Also during WW2 Musselini attempted to invade Greece and was defeated by a smaller Greek force.

Thermopylae the sacred band of the Spartans under Leonidas held of the 250,000 strong Persian army and its Immortals. True the original army of the Greeks was not made up of Spartans alone. But Leonidas sent them away. He was defeated by betrayal by a man called Efialtis who led the Persians through a mountain pass and surrounded them. They fell to a man. The traitor's name has become the Greek word for nightmare (efialtis)

:You may be thinking about the Battle of Thermopylae, but it wasn't the Italians there, it was the Persians. (See the link below for more info.)
