This is assuming that the pod is in disk mode, and nothing is being transferred between the pod and computer.

I guess it's not that important, but it would be nice to not have to click "eject" every time.

it is risky. if you're unlucky enough to unplug it while it is writing file allocation table information, you'll nuke the hard drive. Then you'll have to reformat. I did that to my usb flash drive once. same principle.

I've done it a few times by accident and nothing has happened, but they say that it can damage your device or erase some of the memory. I don't think it's worth breaking your iPod over one little click (although I do agree that it's annoying to eject it every time).

It is unlikely that doing it once or twice, will result in the loss of anything. But doing it frequently, will most definitely result in some long-term damage to your IPod.

I used to sell mobile phones and IPods, and we had many returns, from customers who admitted to disconnecting their IPod, even though it instructed them not to.

I've never hurt anything by doing it, but it doesn't hurt to just eject the ipod first by dragging the icon over to the trash bin.

NO!!!!!! Always click eject. If you disconnect it improperly, transferring files or not, you could lose all your songs, pics, videos, etc. Trust me I have done it and it sucks!!
