If a person's life becomes unliveable--and I mean terminal illness progressed to the point of waiting to die--I think s/he has the right to end his/her life. If s/he can't do it herself, someone should be allowed to assist.

My opinion is that it should be allowed in certain circumstances. The whole Terry Schiavo thing got blown completely out of proportion by the media and the bible thumpers. Situations like this occur every day and they're not on the NBC Evening News. It's a family decision and should be left up to the family or next of kin, not the courts
If a person's quality of life declines so much with no hope of improvement, they should be allowed to die with some dignity. Many people with terminal illnesses are dealing with so many things that are out of their control. They should be given control over how they want to die.

It is a very good answer for some people with a terminal illness, who have no expectancy of a dignified and pain free life left. I would like to be dead right now. However someone would come along to "save" me. I hate this world but cannot do the deed myself without being found.

I don't think it should be illegal...If i am turned into a "Terry Schiavo" in a car wreck or something I want my husband or doctor to be able to follow the wishes I set forth and put me out of my misery. I would never want to live in horrible pain either. There would be no joy, no happiness, no light. How could someone live like that?

Assisting suicide is a crime because a person is practically an accomplice in the killing as provided for in the Penal Law.

I believe it should be legalized but regulated by some sort of medical board and should not be done unless there is a living will stating that is the person"s wish. It is a complicated issue, lots to consider.
