I'm not anti-American. I just use my brain and think.

Could the USA beat China or Russia in a war? It is a simple question.

Russia can never be beat in any war.
Every time an army has tried to invade Russia they ultimately failed (Napoleon, Hitler and many others). The reason for this is that Russians have many factors on their side:
1. Nature (Winter, bad weather)
2. Lack of infrastructure (No roads)
3. Smekalka (common sense + ingenuity)
4. Patriotism
Many other factors can be listed. These are the main ones.
The US army has troubles now in Iraq and Afghanistan and there is no end in sight. The only way the US could win a war with Russia or China is by using nuclear warfare. This is impossible as the amount of nuclear detonations necessary to win would destroy the Planet eventually and the US with it. MAD (mutually assured destruction) is the only way the US can beat Russia or China.
During the cold war there were 2 superpowers, now there are none. The US has lost most of its military might after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The only way to regain that might is by allowing China to become the USSR of our time.
The US can't control the situation in Iraq, how can it be expected to attack and beat Russia?

We could crush Iraq under our boot heel, but that would not help us achieve our aims. The old regime, our real enemy in the war, was a paper tiger and collapsed quickly. We want the new Iraq to be independent and friendly to us, so the politicians have decided we need to "finesse" the situation with the insurgents.

You know those polls where people say they're dissatisfied with the war? Well, some of us are dissatisfied because we feel the military should have been allowed a firmer hand, right from the start. Take the incident in Faluja where the bodies of those solders were abused and hung from a bridge. In my opinion we should have dropped a MOAB on that bridge, and every other site where atrocities like that were found. If we had done that early the Iraqi people would have feared us more, but they'd be turning in the terrorists, rather than risk the destruction of their neighborhood.

A war with China would be an entirely different matter. There would be no attempt at finesse. Look at the history of WW II. There were no new cars for years, because all the factories were converted to war production. Gasoline was rationed, so was meat. People today have NO IDEA what total war is like.

Are you kidding? USA fighting against China or Russia? I doubt this will ever happen in the forseeable future. China is fast growing into Superpower, with their technologies and military strength and I believe their military manpower is more than USA. Russia on the other hand has been quiet on this front, but they should not be overlook as well, as they too have war trained veterans, although their weapons are not as advanced as USA.

Furthermore, USA is sending their soldiers to Iraq, North Korea and other parts of the world, and if USA were to go against either China or Russia, how can USA has the manpower and resources to beat them.

We can't fight a war using rules, when the enemy does not use the rules.

We could win any war, if the America public wanted to win bad enough. If 2 or 3 malls were blown up every week, if a school was shoot up every week. Americans would not care if we actually leveled all the enemy major cities.

The way it is, no one is giving up anything to help fight the war like they did in WWII. Now we play war, with rules, soldiers being charged with killing an emeny incorrectly.

In WWII we bombed entire cities and the soldiers were told great job, today we hit one wrong building and someone wants to sue the government or put the soldier in jail for it.

So basicly we have to get rid of the ACLU and the other people helping and giving aid to the enemy movement, and actually fight a war.

A war against an ideology is quite different than a war against another country. Russia bogged down in Afghanistan badly - that certainly doesn't mean Russia couldn't defeat Afghanistan in an all out war.

A war between major nuclear powers would be devastating. It reminds of of an analogy I once heard:

If two men are standing in a gas tank - one has a match and the other one has a whole book of matches - which one has the most power?

Russia, yes, China, who knows?

Don't worry, China is heading for an inner collapse. Remember Tiennanmenn Square? Activism for liberty is not yet dead.

The war wasn't / isn't the question. We won the war.

The occupation is the problem. Even the Romans had trouble with occupations, as does every occupational force.

That's a horrible thought. Everyone would lose. There's no comparison to Iraq. There would be no occupation. Someone would be completely decimated.
