im going on a road trip with a friend over winter break this year, any ideas on where to go would be great. We'll be starting from Dallas, Texas and we wont have a very high budge to work with, ideal locations would be great.

Well now that we've got the high budget ideas out of the way, I would head south. Maybe hit the Hill Country like Fredericksburg, or Kerrville.
Head over to San Antonio, maybe go to Sea World or Six Flags, maybe see the Alamo.
Then I'd head over to the Coast to Corpus Christi, Padre Island, Port Aransas, Galveston.
Then you could head back home on 45 out of Houston. That would kill a week on a budget.

Go to California. See Los Angeles - especially the northernside of town - Burbank, Beverly Hills, San Fernando valley. They connect to Santa Monica Beach, and that has a nice boardwalk on past Venice Beach with lots of shops and eateries. Real nice part of town. Then, drive up past San Francisco. There are redwood forests up Hwy 101. The Avenue of the Redwoods is up there. Neat little towns with lots of flower children/ deadheads - Willits, Ukiah, etc... It's all quite an experience.

Stop off in Las Vegas along the way and play some slots and drink some beer. Go casino hopping. The cocktail waitresses sure look fine.

a couple of years back my husband and i did a road trip one last summer during college. we left fort worth, drove to holbrook, az to stay in the wigwam motel (one of the last original places on route 66), headed to the grand canyon and then to vegas. on our way back we stopped in colorado for the mesa verde national park (one of the oldest in the nation) and then made one last stop in amarillo for the big texan.

if you are looking to stay in state, get the book weird texas and map some of the sights. that book could give you some great ideas for trips that arent out of state.
