I inherited my grandmother's dining room table, and someone inadvertently put a hot pan on it, now it has a large white stain on it. I don't have the money to take it to a professional, is there anything I can do to help minimize the mark? I'm so tired of looking at ugly tablecloths...

I had this problem and I was told by someone to put Vaseline on the white part of the wood and leave it there for a few hours and the white disappears. Sounds too easy but it worked for me.
Although yours may be a little deeper so I can't promise that this will work. Have a go and see anyway what have you to loose.
Hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

Generally the meat of a walnut nut will work!!!

Break nut meat(Not shell) in 1/2, rub open/broken end onto stain.

Also try a slightly darker shade, (Darker than the table), wood polish/oil

Break a leg!!!

Rub the white spot with a nut..a pecan or walnut will work. You can buy an almond stick which is the oil of almond but I would try the nut first. . Old English recover or brown shoe polish can be put on after the oil of the nut.

Sand the spot down to bare woon and put a wet cloth on the spot apply a clothes iron This will swell the wood. Let it dry and sand smooth. Then revarnish. It will look like new.

Either paint the table white or buy some better tablecloths

sand off that particular spot . There arent that many diiferent types of varnish. Figure out which varnish matches the best and either add dark or thin out, whatever it takes to make it match. Thats the best you can do without it getting really expensive.

i do hardwood floors.basiclly the same finish.you,as crazy as it sounds, can tear a big peice from a brown paper grocery bag and use it to hand buff the spot.it takes a lot of elbow grease.and will work, if the spot isn't too deep into the finish, about 50 per cent of the time.

Rub some toothpaste on it. Then clean it and white stain should be gone.
