I always thought that was sun tan lotion, to help prevent burning.

I use plain baby oil. I tan on each side for 15 minutes. Wash it off yourself and then apply at least spf 30 for the rest of the day. If you never tan, don't use the baby oil longer than 15 minutes! you will end up in the hospital. Trust me, its been a personal experience. The baby oil inthe begining just kicks starts it a little.

It's tanning oil, it just multiplies the affect of the rays of the sun cause it's shiny, and it has no affective amount of sun block in it. So yes, it helps you tan faster, but also burn faster so if you burn easily, lay out with sunblock on a few times first to build a "base tan" then switch to tanning oils.

Oils and yes they accelerate the process by making sure the skin is moisturized enough to get tan. That is a key element in tanning. Baby oil or olive oil works good or I have a favorite product full of essential oils to condition the skin as well. Any of these oils are great. I use them everyday and my fav is the shaving oil.

Tanning oil with a low SPF if you want to tan. If you "hardly ever do this" you should probably be rubbing on water proof sunblock with a high SPF 45+ so your hedonistic sun worshiping doesn't leave you rubbing aloe over your peeling formerly never exposed pale skin.

They put on sun screen. The idea is to block the harmful uv-rays from burning the skin.

You should have the most protective suntan lotion that you can buy to protect you from the sun so you won't burn! Believe me sun poisioning is no fun-that happens when you almost roast yourself in the sun It is bad for your skin to!
