This used to happen in Chicago and was one of the reasons why their city hall was so corrupt. Back in the 1920s and the 1930s, the votes were often bought and people would vote for teh person who paid them the most money. In this case, the mob controlled the elections.

To allow this once again would mean that the richest people would control the government.

This has to be a trick question. Surely you know that voting is a privlege and it reflects how each individual voter thinks and feels. It shows his judgement cast on important issues and representatves. It is not a reflection of how just those who can afford to buy votes feels. The idea behind voting is that everyone has an equal voice in government. Selling your vote would entirely defeat the purpose of having voters. Anyone who would like to sell their vote is living in the wrong country!

Votes are not for sale because it is the only weapon that can be used by a citizen in choosing his leader. The money a person could receive in exchange for a vote could not even pay if he becomes a victim of a bad leader.
