Replaced starter and still click. Could it be cylinoid on firewall next to battery? If so, do you know the wiring diagram?

have you had the battery tested or replaced??? maybe try that.

Your car is 13 years old, sweetcakes.

The first thing to do is buy a cheap volt meter.
If it has less than 12 volts, get a jump and see if it starts. If it won't start when properly jumped, your starter may be bad. If it starts sometimes, but not other times, it could be the solenoid.

If it starts look at the volt meter again to see if your charging system is working, the volt meter should read 13.5 volts or more. If it doesn't you need a new alternator.

If it has over 12 volts with the engine off, watch what happens when you crank the car. If it drops to zero, you have a bad battery. If it only goes down a little, you could have a corrosion problem somewhere between the battery and where the cables connect on your engine or chassis. That's when you can try the following:

Buy a tool from Pep-Boys to clean your battery posts and clamps. If after you clean them it still does the same thing, you may need a starter.

it is most likely bad connection at the battery or the starter relay switch. The starter relay switch is located on the fender. Locate the +(positive) battery cable...follow that to the next connection...which will be the starter relay switch.

Be careful to not burn yourself but you can take a wire and jump the 2 large terminals together and see if it makes the car turn over. If that works just replace the relay.

you have a starter soloenoid right where you say. just replace it and wire it back just like you took the old one off.

i own a repair shop,,and i think it is the solenoid ,,there bad to go out on ford and mercury products,and this is what they do when they go bad,,they just click ,,i replace them all the time its no big job to do,,good luck i hope this help,s
